    Description

American Chicle "Kis-Me" Tolu Chewing Gum Wrappers--lot of 6 in excelleent plus condition--no tears or stains. .
Jonathan P. Primley was one of "modern day chewing gum's" pioneers. J.P. Primley had a sense of humor that went against proper Victorian rules of etiquette as at the time he began making chewing gum in 1886 - no "proper lady" would ever be caught chewing gum and yet Primley's invention of the first fruit-flavored chewing gum named "Kis-Me" proved to be very popular. The gum's slogan was: "Far Better Than A Kiss". It gave boys a good reason to buy and carry the gum as if a pretty young girl asked for a piece of "Kis-Me" - her escort could always claim she had asked him for a kiss and he was only trying to honor the young lady's request. Primley went onto making other successful chewing gums such as "California Fruit".

In 1899 - J.P. Primley (Kis-Me Chewing Gum Co.) joined Thomas Adams and four other individual chewing gum companies in merging together to form the American Chicle Co. The principle reason for Adams forming American Chicle was in order to compete with the ever increasing success of Wm. Wrigley Jr. as Adams had dominated the chewing gum market prior to Wrigley's unexpected entrance in 1893. Combined shipping
