This is a collection of 6 cards printed in 1910 by the famous department store of the era Au Bon Marche in Paris France. These card commemorate the 1910 passing of Halley's Comet. The cards are in French, each has a colorful print on the front with text. On the back are more Halley comet facts as well as an ad for the Department store. The back of each card has different facts about the comet. The main theme of the cards is to point out the wonders of the 1910 modern world compared to the world of 1835 when the comet last visited. Card 1 translates roughly to " The beautiful Halley's Comet has not visited in 75 years, here is how Paris will receive it." The image of the woman in the pink dress represents the comet and you can tell by her flowing headdress. The woman in blue represents the city of Paris. On card 2 it talks about a grand parade for the comet with things like autos, bicycles, locomotives and other thing that were not around when the comet passed last time in 1835. Card 3 points out from a boat in the Siene River the Effiel Tower, The Trocadero and the Alexander Bridge. Card 4 is showing the comet the floating Blimps in the sky. Card 4 is showing the comet the Opera Theater. Card 5 And of course a flight over the Au Bon Marche in a really primitive airplane to show the comet where to shop while in Paris. Each card measures 7 x 9 inches. A couple cards have a slight stain on the front, on the back of the cards are some old glue marks from being in an old scrap book. The colors are still very vibrant. No rips, no fold creases. Very rare and collectable.
Guaranteed to be an authentic "old" item.
